This tool reads your photo's file properties in the browser and compares them with published rules for the country and document type you select. The available checks differ by route:
Supported document types: India Passport, Indian OCI, India Visa, Indian e-Visa, US Passport, UK Passport, Canada Passport, Australia Passport.
It does not inspect the background, face size, pose, lighting, expression, glasses, blur, or any other visual requirement. Australia publishes a printed-photo workflow rather than digital passport-file limits, so its results are informational.
Pre-checking catches supported file-level problems before you open a government application. It is a preliminary screen, not a government acceptance decision.
For U.S. online renewal, use an original JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, or HEIF file from 54 KB to 10 MB. Do not pre-crop it to a 2×2 square: upload the unchanged original and reposition and crop it inside the official application at opr.travel.state.gov.
For the complete U.S. path, open the U.S. passport photo workflow, review the current U.S. photo requirements, or check whether the Walgreens passport-photo service includes a digital copy.
Can this checker tell me whether my photo will be accepted?
No. It can rule out supported file-property problems, but it cannot inspect visual compliance or predict the issuing authority's decision. India Passport Seva, for example, requires a 630×810 JPEG upload, but the portal also performs checks this browser tool does not reproduce.
What are common passport photo compliance issues?
File-level problems include a wrong aspect ratio, a file outside the published size range, an unsupported format, or wrong dimensions on an exact-size portal. Visual problems such as a bad background or face coverage require a separate manual and official review.
Can I check my photo against Passport Seva's 20 validation rules?
No. This free tool reads dimensions, format, file size, and aspect ratio only. It does not reproduce biometric checks such as face detection, head tilt, posture, distortion, lighting, glasses, or alteration detection. No PhotoPass result is a replacement for the official portal's decision.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
Your photo is analyzed in your browser using the Canvas API and is not uploaded for checking. Troubleshooting replay may include those canvas pixels as disclosed in our Privacy Policy; input values and network payloads remain masked.
