Australian passport photos are not an exact 35×45mm format. The Australian Passport Office allows a width of 35–40mm and a height of 45–50mm, with the head measuring 32–36mm from chin to crown, against a plain white or light-grey background.
You need two identical printed colour photos on heavy-weight glossy dye-sublimation paper of at least 200 gsm. The photos must not be retouched in any way, including background replacement. For that reason, PhotoPass disables its editing flow for Australian passport photos and offers only a preliminary check of the original image.
The Australian Passport Office says it does not recommend online or mobile passport-photo services. Even when you start the application online, the form is printed and lodged with compliant photos at a participating Australia Post outlet.
