Canada requires every passport photo to be taken in person by a commercial photographer or photo studio. Paper applications use two identical, unaltered 50×70mm photos with a 31–36mm face height. The studio must provide its name, complete address, and the date the photo was taken.
For online renewal, ask the commercial photographer for a digital JPEG saved directly from the camera original. It must use a 2:3 portrait aspect ratio, be 1,200×1,800 to 3,000×4,500 pixels, measure 200 KB–5 MB, and have a chin-to-crown height of 45–50% of the image.
Do not crop, brighten, sharpen, retouch, replace the background, or use filters or AI. PhotoPass can check the published file dimensions, aspect ratio, JPEG format, and file size without altering the original, but it cannot replace the required photographer or inspect visual compliance.
